WOMAN IS THE NIGGER OF THE WORLD/FACT 100!!!

So this is it. Fact  #100. I would first like to thank everyone who actually reads the facts that I post. I was just really bored over winter break and decided to start posting them and eventually quite a few people caught interest. I hope this note/blog entry makes you think about some things. It is not my intention to change anyone’s thinking but merely to spark thought.

 ”Woman is the Nigger of the World!” Kinda makes you think huh? When I first heard this song I was in total shock (as many of you can imagine). I’ve been a Lennon fan for years and when this came on I was like “F dude” lol. But something made me go back and listen to the lyrics very closely. I want to draw attention to the title. Many people have their perceptions (and/or misperceptions) of the N word. Some think it’s a good word to say and some don’t. However, if you look at the facts and history behind the word, there’s not a single person who can deny that the word is a racial badmouth against black people. Some may argue the history as well but without getting too into it (which I’ve been known to do) let’s just say the word is a little under 400 years old.

Lennon argues that society beats women down. We act as if they are treasured when really we treat them like trash. I have to agree with this point. Men for ages have operated under the many double standards that directly involve women. One of course may look at the sexual sense and think about the many sexual partners a man is allowed to have before he is labeled a “hoe” and the amount a woman is allowed to have before she gets the title.
In the description John lays out for us (see the video) he quotes the chairman of the black caucus at the time (circa 1970) Congressman Ron Dellums, and he explains that almost everyone can be niggers. Congressman  Dellums claims “If you define niggers as someone who’s lifestyle is defined by others, who’s opportunities are defined by others, who’s role in society is defined by others, then good news!-you don’t have to be black to be a nigger in this society, most of the people in America are niggers”. Personally this is not my definition but he does have a point.

John explains that women are the niggers of the world because of how the mental ownership and enslavement that they have dealt with for thousands of years. One may argue that Blacks went through more during slavery, Jews went through more during the holocaust, and Africans went through more during apartheid. Lennon argues that it’s the woman who is the slave of slaves. They work hard and take it the hardest when they get home from work no matter what race.

Listen!!! No matter what you believe the fact is that all women are disrespected in some way. You can call then whatever name you choose but the time for change is now. Brothers (black, white, whatever) let’s stop mistreating our women, listening to songs that call them names, referring to them as bitches and hoes (which we ALL re guilty of at some point). It’s not cool nor is it the way we want our daughters to be referred to. Also, the “N” word has such a piercing sound coming from the mouths of white people. Why does it sound so good coming from blacks? It shouldn’t. Let’s stop using that word and recognize it for what it is. Not a term of endearment, not an acronym made by Tupac, and not a term for a deadbeat man.

I’m not a nigger, neither is my mother, neither is my sister, or any other woman I know. Although John makes a good point I think the song is defined by your personal definition of what a nigger is. When all is said and done we have two obligations 1. Stop treating our women as trash and 2.Stop calling ourselves niggers. It is my personal belief that then and only then will we be able to me move forward as black people in society.
